MIKE by DHI Service Pack 1 is available

Service Pack 1 for release 2012 is available for download from our website. Here you can also find the updated release notes with information about the corrections and improvements in Service Pack 1. Please find a few examples below:

You can download Service Pack 1 and the updated release notes here.

Volume balance output in MIKE FLOOD

Release 2012 introduced a new and long awaited end-of-simulation volume balance output for MIKE FLOOD simulations. However, despite the fact that this is a really helpful feature in determining whether the MIKE FLOOD model setup is healthy or not, it is also a fact that the additional calculations of volumes has an effect on the overall MIKE FLOOD model performance compared to previous releases. Thus, once you have assured that your model runs without volume errors, it can be advantageous to deactivate the volume calculations to increase performance. Service Pack 1 introduces an option to deactivate the volume balance calculations by changing a new parameter in the MIKE11.ini file. This new feature will deactivate the volume balance calculation for the 2D and the river component of a MIKE FLOOD simulation.

Temporal variation in MIKE SHE

Release 2012 introduced the possibility of specifying temporal variation of the ‘overland leakage’ coefficient as well as the saturated zone drain time constant and depth/level. Service Pack 1 further enhances the flexibility in setting up accurate groundwater models by including additional options for time variation of model parameters in MIKE SHE.
Service Pack 1 introduces the option for temporal variation of the following variables:

  • Manning numbers for the overland flow model
  • Hydraulic conductivity (horizontally and vertically) for the saturated zone

The new time varying model parameter options are defined through the ‘extra parameters’ option in the MIKE SHE GUI.

Unit handling in MIKE Zero 2012

Version 2012 offers support for user selected units in MIKE 11, MIKE 21 (except MIKE 21 C), MIKE 3, MIKE SHE and MIKE FLOOD. This puts you in control of which units you want to use, for example for input parameters. The facility is very flexible and easy to use. It can be edited at any time and does not affect compatibility between users that have configured their unit choices differently. For example, it is now possible to plot and compare data, saved in different units, in the same plot and in the same units.
Please be aware that the extended support of units can impact existing setups in several cases where the definition of item type and unit are insufficient in input data. In these cases, when opening a setup file, you’ll get an error related to an input file. The issue can be easily solved using the Data Utility tool. A detailed explanation on how to do this can be found here.

Simulation of massive earthquake in the Solomon Islands

Tsunami simulation

On 6 February 2013 at 12:12 local time (1:12 UTC), several seismologic stations around the world recorded an MW=8.0 earthquake near Santa Cruz Island (Solomon Islands) in the South Pacific. At DHI, we conducted a rapid simulation of the earthquake using MIKE 21 HD.

Activities towards the implementation of water plans and the EU Water Framework Directive are at full speed in the Danish municipalities and local environmental centres. This workshop focuses on the challenges related to water quality and the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD). You will be introduced to the latest tools within categorisation, monitoring and improving water quality.

The seminar is free of charge and takes place at DHI´s Head office in Hørsholm in the afternoon of Thursday 7 March. The event will be conducted in Danish. Hands-on (computer) exercises are not included in the seminar.

For further information and registration, please click here for the seminar flyer in Danish or contact Loni Skov Madsen, DHI Denmark

21 March 2013

You will receive new information about climate change and adaptation in urban areas as well as get an introduction to tools, models and guidelines that are usable for climate change adaptation. The seminar will deal with questions such as, 'What is the impact of national legislation'? 'What are Danish and international experiences with climate change adaptation'? 'How do we work with risk mapping and adaptation at local level'?

The seminar is free of charge and takes place at DHI´s office in Hørsholm in the afternoon of Thursday 21 March. Hands-on (computer) exercises are not included in the seminar. Deadline for registration: Thursday 14 March.

MIKE URBAN Flood training in Korea

MIKE URBAN Flood training

On 24-25 January, approx. 60 participants were gathered at the Incheon University, ICUH (International Center for Urban Water Hydroinformatics) in Korea for a MIKE URBAN/MIKE FLOOD Urban training course. Organised in collaboration with DHI’s agent in Korea, Hydrosoft, as well as Incheon University, it was the first of its kind held in Korea and was completed with great success.
