Integrated water quality in surface and subsurface water
A surface spill will impact the environment via many pathways. It can dissolve in runoff and contaminate streams and rivers directly, or infiltrate through the unsaturated zone and eventually impact streams and rivers via baseflow. Impacts via these different pathways are different and complex, in terms of timing, duration, concentration and natural attenuation. MIKE SHE allows you to simulate integrated water quality across the hydrologic cycle.
Reaction Processes - MIKE SHE allows you to simulate dissolution on the ground surface, plus temperature and moisture dependent first-order decay, as well as linear and non-linear sorption - with or without hysterisis.
Particle Tracking - MIKE SHE includes a sophisticated random walk particle tracking module for analyzing transient flow patterns in the saturated zone. The random walk method is especially useful for determining well field capture zones and recharge areas from long term transient simulations.
Water Quality in rivers – Water quality in MIKE SHE is using MIKE 11 for water quality modelling in rivers. Further, EcoLab is available in MIKE 11 for nearly unlimited flexibility in simulating kinetic water quality processes, such as surface water eutrophication and heavy metal fate and transport.
