Improving urban drainage system in Prague

The city of Prague faces a problem with the collection system due to inadequate capacity of the central Wastewater Treatment Plant. The location of the Wastewater Treatment Plant combined with insufficient capacity directly influences the urban drainage performance. As a result the treatment of rainwater is not appropriate. The need for an urban drainage master plan emerged.

DHI’s MIKE URBAN software played a central role in planning and designing improvements to Prague’s urban collection systems. The urban drainage master plan provided a tool for everyday operation of the drainage system. The plan also enables an investement optimization since it provides a basis for a long-term program identifying what measures in the Prague water basin are feasible to invest in.
