The Expo 2010 represents Shanghai’s hope to build a powerful and lasting pilot example of sustainable and urban living. Shanghai South Water Company Limited will be responsible for supplying water for all pavilions in the 2010 Expo site which covers 1.35 square kilometres and is located west of Huangpu River. With such a large site evaluation of different water distribution emergency scenarios and development of emergency plans are vital.
DHI China was commissioned to analyse several emergency scenarios including fire incidents, pipe failure, disinfector casting, and contamination diffusing. To assist the analysis of emergency scenarios,
Shanghai South Water Company Limited decided a water distribution model for the expo site in Puxi was needed. DHI China developed this model which can provide input for decision-making in the case of an emergency.

On the basis of the model predictions emergency plans for the entire expo area have been established by DHI China.
The water distribution model enables Shanghai South Water Company Limited to accommodate the large number of visitors throughout this major event.
